Insurance Company Is The First Employer In The U.S. To Cover Their Employees’ Pet Adoption Fees

If you happen to work for “The Zebra,” you already realize that it is an interesting place to work. It is an insurance comparison website but a new benefit has been recently added. Employees are being paid to adopt pets.

A press release from the company says that zebra is now going to cover “expenses up to $300 annually for employees welcoming a new cat or dog.” It’s a perk for any employee who wants to take advantage of it and they are going to cover the initial expenses of owning a new pet, including the adoption fees. They also get “pawterinity” leave so they can take the time to get acquainted with the new member of their family.

Some of the employees at The Zebra are already taking advantage of the opportunity. An agency quality assurance coordinator, Maribeliz Ortiz, has welcomed Niko into their family. She had always dreamed of having such a dog and now it is a reality.

“I’m not ready to have a child any time soon,” she said in the press release. “But it feels really nice to be supported by my company to help start a family in the way I can right now.”

The senior manager in performance marketing, Dan Kujanek, also adopted a rescue dog, Romy. It was during the time of the pandemic when he brought the shepherd mix into his home from the AjK Family Rescue in Austin.

What a fantastic way to help animals and to give employees something to enjoy. Let’s hope that it rubs off on other companies so that many others can benefit.

I love to write and it keeps me busy. I've been working online, full time since 1999. When you can't find me at the keyboard, you'll find me getting as much as I can out of life. I enjoy living simply, playing games, visiting the beach, and spending time with my family.
