After Bonding In Lockdown, Mama Cat Finally Trusts Woman Enough To Introduce Her Baby Kitten

Life in lockdown is isolating and scary but, thankfully, social distancing doesn’t extend to our four-legged companions. This allowed one woman to foster such a strong bond with a community cat that the feline finally trusted her enough to meet her baby kitten.

According to Reddit, user callmecourtnay regularly fed and watered a neighborhood stray who was so grateful that she started joining the family on daily walks. But lately, the woman noticed that the cat had started acting more needy. “Over the last week, she has been extremely clingy and affectionate,” callmecourtnay wrote on Reddit. “She hardly ever leaves our porch.”

In fact, the stray cat actually had a surprise for the woman, whom she’d come to consider a ‘de facto’ pet parent thanks to her regular care and feeding. “Today after our walk, she brought us her kitten,” callmecourtnay posted. “I feel so honored.”

The woman had assumed the cat was being clingy, but in fact she just wanted to introduce her adorable mini-me offspring, a tiny kitten that looked just like a smaller, shyer version of its outgoing mother. Mama Cat had entrusted callmecourtnay to help provide her baby with safety, shelter, and love.

There’s a stray cat that hangs out around my neighborhood. We give her food and water and she accompanies us on our daily walks. Over the last week, she has been extremely clingy and affectionate. She hardly ever leaves our porch. Today after our walk, she brought us her kitten. I feel so honored. from aww

Naturally, Reddit gushed over the introduction of this adorable kitten, which is exactly the sort of cuteness people really need right now. But others worried about the presence of a solitary kitten, and encouraged callmecourtnay to create a safe, comfortable place where the mama cat could bring the rest of her litter, just in case additional kittens were hidden nearby.

The woman heeded these comments, and set up a makeshift “catio” on her back porch where the young family could come and go as they please. The cozy space is equipped with a cat carrier, blankets, food, and soft cushions for napping.

“We moved them to our screened in back porch,” callmecourtnay wrote. “I gave them a cat carrier with a blanket and we feed her twice a day. We do plan on getting her spayed when she’s done nursing. Thank you guys for the love and kind words.”

You can tell the Mama Cat knows she’s lucky to have found such a loving human to help care for her precious kitten. You can tell by how much she wants to cuddle callmecourtnay in the video below!
