Who are some famous persons in history who were known for being extremely afraid of cats?FamilyPet
An excessive fear of cats is called ailurophobia. It may be triggered by actual contact with a feline, or even by simply seeing photos of a cat or images of one on the television. The phobia is persistent, often to the point of irrational response on the part of the sufferer.
There have been many famous people throughout history who were openly terrified of felines including Napoleon Bonaparte, Benito Mussolini, Adolph Hitler, Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, and King Henry III of France.
The condition is distinct from those people who simply do not like cats. For a reaction to be classed as a phobia, it must significantly interfere with the person’s life on a day-to-day basis. Therefore someone who worked in a vet clinic who also suffered from ailurophobia would have a major problem.
Most people who are afraid of cats, however, can quite successfully avoid contact with them. If, however, they have a compelling reason to overcome their fear, professional therapy is generally required to confront the condition.
In many instances ailurophobia begins with a bad experience, perhaps having been attacked by a cat, or seriously startled and frightened by one. The phobia can be overcome, but most people do not attempt to do so if the reaction does not cause specific issues in their lives.
