What’s the biggest breed of dog?

The biggest breed of dog is the English Mastiff, according to the American Kennel Club. This mammoth dog can weigh upwards of 300 pounds, and can be up to 36 inches at the shoulder. The heaviest English Mastiff on record was 343 pounds, as recorded in 1989. The Neapolitan Mastiff ranks second, weighing in at around 200 lbs. with a shoulder height of around 30 inches.

Other dogs that make the list for biggest breed included the Irish Wolfhound and the Great Dane. These dogs are not so much heavy as they are tall. The Irish Wolfhound is thought to be the tallest dog breed, with the Great Dane not far behind.

The St. Bernard and Newfoundland are also among the biggest breeds of dogs. These dog breeds both weigh in around 200 pounds. The Newfoundland is also said to be the strongest dog breed. Some St. Bernard’s can also weigh more than English Mastiffs, which often make them a contender for biggest dog breed. Leonbergers and French Mastiffs are also extremely large dog breeds.
