Dr. Sheddy and Cpt. Joel moved aboard SV Chuffed in December 2016 and are currently sailing around Central America and the Carribean, providing free veterinary care to animals in need.

Dr. Sheddy has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was a little girl and she worked hard to make her dream come true. Captain Joel is a marine biologist and had been saving for a sail boat since he was 16.

The couple met in college in 2006 and have been together ever since. They decided to leave their jobs and put their love of sailing, travel and helping animals to good use. They set sail and started a YouTube documentary series, “Chuffed Adventures,” which documents all of their travels and animal rescues.

Together, they have already changed so many different animals’ lives. They have helped more than 250 dogs and 220 cats and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. They spay and neuter stray cats and dogs in every place they visit so that more puppies won’t have to be born on the streets. Dr. Sheddy also takes care of people’s pets who are in need for free.

But their work isn’t limited to just cats and dogs. They have helped all kinds of animals including pigs, possums, sloths, birds, and turtles. They have performed emergency surgeries as well as freed birds who were trapped in netting.

While saving all of these animals, they also get to visit new places and are having the time of their lives. The old saying goes, “love what you do, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life,” and this couple truly loves what they do!
