Toots, a Beagle-mix, had no idea that she was about to experience the ultimate betrayal by her family. One day her family decided they were going to dump her at the local shelter, San Bernardino City Shelter, because they wanted to adopt a different dog to take on a trip.

“TODAY I SAW THE MOST SELFISH OF HUMANS! Who can look in her face and know your their whole world and still walk away?,” a supporter of the shelter, Andrea Neyses, posted on Facebook.

To make the situation worse, the shelter is high kill because of overpopulation. Toots’s family left her to die after she had given them unconditional love for the past six years. Toots thought she had found her forever family when she was adopted by them in Hawaii. However, she was discarded like trash by the family she loved.

There is no word on the “new” dog that the family adopted, or what shelter they adopted the dog from. Luckily, Toots story reached Geraldine Gilliland, founder of Chiquita’s Friends Rescue. Gilliland rushed to the shelter to rescue Toots. She arrived just before close and was able to take Toots so she did not have to spend one night in the shelter.

Toots was very frightened and confused as to why she was not at her home. Her new rescue mom took Toots home and comforted her. Toots has found a forever family and shares her home in Malibu with many other rescue dogs. We wish her all the happiness in the world. Thank you for rescuing her!
