David Pomerantz was a beloved Switzerland Point Middle School teacher. He passed away last year, and his family honored his wishes in his will by presenting St. Augustine Humane Society with a legacy gift.

St. Augustine Humane Society is committed to keeping animals with their families by offering resources like a food pantry, low cost spay/neuter and a wellness clinic. “Our goal is to eliminate the need for families to relinquish their pets to shelters, enabling pets to live happily and healthfully in their homes for the entirety of their lives.”

The humane society was humbled by the donation and posted, “We’re so very grateful for the generous bequest from the estate of a beloved teacher from Switzerland Point Middle School, David Pomerantz.”

They went on to say, “We thank the Pomerantz family for their generous donations and we are touched that the family held such a beautiful ceremony at the Humane Society while dedicating the donations,” said Carolyn Smith, St. Augustine Humane Society’s executive director.”

News4JAX reports that the family presented the shelter with a $5,000 initial donation with an additional $1,500 to be donated annually for the next 10 years.

In addition, Pomerantz donated a “stained glass artwork featuring a parrot motif” that will be auctioned off at the shelters annual Pin Up Paws Party silent auction. His family contributed to the moment with a large donation of pet food.

The money will be put towards caring for pets. “The contributions will help us with our goal of ensuring that every pet in our community has the chance at a happy, healthy life with their loving families instead of being relinquished to animal shelters.”

The shelter honored him with a name plaque in their lobby. His legacy as an animal lover and generous man will live on.
