Four Shelter Dogs Were Rescued And Trained To Retrieve Tennis Balls At The Brazil Open!
Four shelter dogs who were rescued from slums and abandoned lots around Sao Paulo, Brazil, were trained to be “ball dogs” for an exhibition tennis match at the Brazil Open. The four pups, Frida, Mel, Isabelle and Costela, ran around the court fetching the balls and reluctantly bringing them to the players.
Andrea Beckert, a trainer from the Association of Animal Wellbeing, said they wanted to show people that abandoned dogs can be adopted and trained. “After all, it’s not easy to get a dog to only pick up the lost balls, and then to give them up!” she said. The association is sheltering nearly 1,200 dogs and they hope that they can raise awareness with their ‘ball dog’ initiative.
