This Sea Lion Pup Made A Full Recovery. But When I Saw Where They Found Her, I Couldn’t Believe It!
This eight-month-old sea lion pup, nicknamed Marina, was found sitting in a booth all alone at a restaurant in San Diego. She was dehydrated and malnourished, weighing just 20 pounds. She also had an eye injury. She was rescued by SeaWorld’s animal rescue center and brought there to begin her rehabilitation before releasing her back into the ocean.
Her rehabilitation lasted eight weeks, and during that time, she doubled her weight! She was nursed back to health and her eye had completely healed. When she was healthy enough, she was taken by boat, along with eight recently rescued and rehabilitated sea lions, to be returned home in the Pacific. Marina was just one of many hundreds of sea lions to turn up starving and stranded on the California coast in the past year. This is thought to be the result of warming seas that have disrupted the marine mammals’ food chain, according to the Huffington Post.
