Company Offers ‘Paw-ternity Leave’ For Employees Who Get A New Dog

Added to the list of leaves available to employees is now “paw-ternity” leave, thanks to one brewery, BrewDog, who’s got 1,000 employees.

BrewDog defined it on their blog as, “[W]e know only too well that having a new arrival – whether a mewling pup or unsettled rescue dog – can be stressful for human and hound both. So we are becoming the first in our industry to give our staff a working week’s leave on us to help settle a new furry family member into their home.”

The brewery was originally a Scottish-based company, but they set up a base close to Columbus, Ohio, thus, becoming the first company in both the US and the UK to offer their workers “paw-ternity” benefit.

As they wrote, “This brand new pooch-based perk will be available to all BrewDog crew members across the globe, including those joining our ship Stateside as part of BrewDog Columbus.”

The blog added, “We’re not aware of any other American company giving a week’s leave to their staff to help build the bond between them and their dog – but then few other companies have four-legged friends at their center as we do.”

The BrewDog brewery in Ohio opened up back in 2017, on February 20th. Since then, their “paw-ternity” leave has no doubt been enjoyed by plenty of pet owners. If only more companies would follow suit.
