How To Make Homemade Pumpkin Dog Biscuits That Your Dog Will Love

In the midst of a global pandemic, it would seem that everyone has become a baking master. So, if you’re someone who’s started making your own sourdough bread, you may want to dial it back and focus on something that your dog would enjoy: doggie treats! We’re sure that your dog will forever love you if you make them some yummy pumpkin cookies. Pumpkin is great for dogs, after all.

As the recipe’s creator Chef Janie stated, “Our Siberian Husky pup loves these biscuits I made up a few weeks ago. They stay fresh in a container for over a month. They really clean her teeth and breath…keep her coat shiny. Great for training treats as well.”

These cookies are pup-approved.

What you’ll need:

2 cups of flour (can be 1 cup whole wheat and 1 cup all-purpose, or 2 of either)
1/2 cup sweet rice flour
1/2 cup of sweet potato flour
2 tbsp potato flour (still has peel on them)
1 1/4 cups of oats
tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1 1/4 – 1 1/3 cup of pure pumpkin
2 large eggs
1/2 cup peanut butter (no sugar, no sweetener)
3 or 4 drops fish oil (optional)

Chef Janie has noted that she does add a little garlic for flea protection to her recipes, however, she warned that garlic and onions aren’t good for dogs, therefore, it should only be used in very minor doses. It is recommended that you don’t use dried garlic, and when you do, only a very small bit.

It is recommended that before you feed your dog homemade treats, you check with your vet about the ingredients used. Chef Janie also added, “You can exchange all for Gluten-free flours as well. You can remove the garlic if this is a problem for you or pup.”
