Meet Potato: The Cat Known For His Googly Eyes On Social Media

It’s impossible to stick a pair of googly eyes onto something and not find it funny. But there is one cat currently on social media that is creating quite the buzz since he has such big eyes that are reminiscent of real-life googly eyes.

Potato the cat is the five-year-old kitty who has naturally bulging eyes. As a result, he’s taking over the internet as people are fascinated with his permanent look of bewilderment. Even his owners can’t help but chuckle at his funny little expression.

Potato was adopted by 21-year-old Ashley Norlien two years ago, and since then, she’s been getting plenty of pictures of Potato in everyday scenarios looking confused. And slowly but surely, the budding social media star has begun amassing more followers thanks to his “different” eyes, and today, he’s got more than 50,000 followers.

Despite his online popularity, Ashley has admitted that she doesn’t have an explanation for his fans as to why Potato looks so shocked.

She has said, “Potato has been with me for about two years now. As soon as I got him, I started uploading pictures online and people immediately noticed there was something different about his eyes. I don’t really know if it’s some genetic conditions, but surely it does make a memorable look.”

Potato isn’t the only social media cat star who has big eyes. Matilda is another kitty who, like Potato, rose to fame with her larger than life eyes.

Unfortunately, Matilda’s expression was a result of a medical condition known as spontaneous lens luxation. This condition occurs when the lens shifts out of position and moves either into the front or into the back of the eye. Sadly for Matilda, this meant that her eyes eventually had to be removed. However, the precious feline has still retained her status as a social media star – just like Potato.
