Other times, pet owners struggle to find the right nom de guerre, especially when your new rescue comes with a name you’re not sold on. 8. Denmark

According to Dutch News, Max is the most popular name for dogs in Denmark for three years running, followed by Pip, which — in a twist — also happens to be the country’s second most popular nomenclature for cats. Bella, Bailey and Bo are also increasingly popular for dogs, while Danish cats tend to go by Luna, Nala, Coco and Max.

7. Japan

This may be the land of Hello Kitty, but Japan’s many adorable canines are treated with equally thoughtful affection. According to Sora News 24, Kotaro (“little boy”), Koro (roughly, “rolly poly”) and Choco (chocolate was a popular name for boy dogs. Meanwhile, female dogs and puppies generally come away with fruity or floral names; see Sakura, Hana (“flower”), Choco, and Momo, which translates to “peach.”
