Senior Pets Are Spending Their Golden Years At This Retirement Home For Four-Legged Friends
Nearly two-dozen dogs are spending their final years at House with a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary (HWAH) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Sher Polvinale and a team of volunteers care for these dogs’ every need—from washing and feeding to medications and vet visits.
HWAH was founded in 2006 by Polvinale and her late husband, Joe, and run out of their home. Sanctuary residents are dogs and cats who have lost their families and homes through no fault of their own. Because of their old age and different medical problems, the odds of them being adopted are slim to none.
HWAH does not act as a foster home or rescue group, rather it is a furever home for these pets. Polvinale works full-time to care for these animals and give them the best days of their life. The pets get to play in secure outdoor yards and spend supervised time in fenced, grassy fields on the two-acre property.
