They Thought There Was a Burglar In Their Kitchen. When They Checked, They Saw Him Waddling Around
A Humboldt penguin wandered into a home in the northern Peruvian town of Chimbote. The hungry penguin made her way into Mary Tancheva’s kitchen, searching for food. Tancheva and her family heard pots and pans banging around in the kitchen and thought it was a burglar.
They checked the kitchen and were shocked to find the penguin waddling around her in the middle of their home.
Tancheva immediately called the police who then took the bird to the Chimbote Zoo. Veterinarians will take care of the penguin and eventually release her back into the wild. That may be the cutest burglar on Earth! What do you think? What would YOU do if you found a random penguin wandering around inside your house?!
Humboldt penguins live in South America along the Pacific Coast and are found in both Chile and Peru. They enjoy the warmer climate compared to many other types of penguins. They like to live on rocky areas around the shores. Humboldt penguins glide through the water with ease at speeds up to 30 miles per hour, which is how they get the small fish and krill to eat.
It’s unknown what led this particular penguin in search of food, but she will be back to the sea in no time!
