Animal Rescue Saves Paralyzed Dog That Cruel Owners Left Outside Without Food Or Water

One of the biggest expenses for shelters and rescue groups is feeding pets in their care.

Meet Lulu, our spokes-dog for GivingTuesday. She was saved because of your generous donations and daily clicks that provide shelters with donated food. Shelters are able to use the money saved on food for medical expenses and long-term care.

Lulu, a 3-year-old hound/pit bull mix was rescued from a neglected home in which she was found outside without any food or water. To make matters worse, she was suffering from an untreated back injury that made her back end paralyzed.

The sweet pup was taken in by Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, Arizona, after animal control seized her. After evaluating Lulu, the shelter reached out to Tucson Cold Wet Noses, a local animal rescue, to see if they would help the injured dog.

Thanks to donated food, Tucson Cold Wet Noses had money in their budget to help Lulu get the care she needed. Lulu received surgery to repair a ruptured disc mid-spine and physical therapy.

A woman named Chris stepped up to foster Lulu and help care for her as she recovered. She told GreaterGood.org in an interview that Lulu was really coming along thanks to physical therapy. “We got her to where she could walk pretty well. But then she reinjured herself…”

Tucson Cold Wet Noses

Lulu is what the rescue calls a long-term foster and not up for adoption. She will live the rest of her life in a loving foster home and Chris loves every minute she spends with her. Although Lulu needs to use her cart or scoot to get around, it has not affected her cheerful personality.
