BREAKING NEWS: Major Pet Food Brand Recalls Dog Food Due To Vitamin D Toxicity

Lidl USA is voluntarily recalling specific lots of Orlando brand Grain Free Chicken & Chickpea Superfood Recipe Dog Food due to elevated levels of vitamin D.

The Lidl recall joins a growing number of others for the year of 2018.

This voluntary recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

What Is Recalled?

According to Dog Food Advisor, Orlando brand Grain Free Chicken & Chickpea Superfood Recipe Dog Food with the following lot numbers manufactured between March 3, 2018 and May 15, 2018 are being recalled.

TI1 3 Mar 2019 TB2 21 Mar 2019
TB3 21 Mar 2019 TA2 19 Apr 2019
TB1 15 May 2019 TB2 15 May 2019

Symptoms of Vitamin D toxicity

Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as:

  • vomiting
  • loss of appetite
  • increased thirst
  • increased urination
  • excessive drooling
  • weight loss

Vitamin D when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction.

What should you do?

According to the FDA, pet owners and those caring for pets should stop feeding the products listed above immediately. Consumers with dogs who have consumed any of the products listed above and are exhibiting these symptoms, should contact their veterinarian.
