This Military Dog Saved Her Soldier’s Life…So He Repaid Her In The Best Way!

Of course we always honor military men and women, but sometimes we forget to honor the true unsung heroes: military dogs. They risk their lives to protect their handlers and are also helping to fight for our freedom. This particular military combat dog, Layka, was shot four times by the enemy at point-blank range, while serving in Afghanistan. She attacked the shooter and saved her handler and his team. She was injured badly but recovered well after seven hours of surgery and a leg amputation.

The best part is, her handler, Staff Sgt. Julian McDonald, fought to adopt her and was successful. Now she lives with him in her furever home! Although Layka was trained to be aggressive at work, she still has a loving, gentle side to her. McDonald says that Layka warmed up to his kids right away and lets them do anything to her. Their story is truly inspirational and so heartwarming. Watch it below:
