Horse Stuck Up To Her Neck In Muddy Bog Is Pulled To Safety

The grass is not always greener on the other side…

A community came together to help rescue a horse stuck up to her neck in a muddy swamp.

A cob-type mare named Farrah escaped her pasture in Wales and ended up submerged in a deep bog. Her owner found her with just her head sticking out of the mud and immediately called RSPCA for help.

The rescue team arrived and placed a tube around the horse’s neck to keep her head above water. The bog was reportedly so deep that Farrah’s hooves weren’t even touching the bottom. The team decided the only way to rescue her was to carefully wrap straps around her and pull her to safety.

RSPCA inspector Mark Roberts said, “The area around the horse was a thick mat of moss, reeds and roots as well as mud so we had to force our arms as far as we could to get two straps around the horse’s body.

“This was the hardest and most time consuming part of the rescue.”

Glyn Jones Contracting (now a local hero) brought and operated the necessary equipment to extract Farrah from the swamp.

They finally managed to pull the horse out of the muddy water and went an additional 100 yards before releasing her. A vet examined her and administered some pain medication. A few minutes later, she was back on her feet and reunited with her concerned owner.

Rescuers described Farrah as ‘lucky’ because she was wearing two blankets, which saved her life. “Thankfully she was wearing 2 rugs which helped to retain some body heat while she was in there otherwise it could of been a very different ending,” wrote RSPCA Wirral.

Farrah’s rescue story was shared on RSPCA’s Facebook page where people thanked the heroes for their work. “Aww poor horse- glad this had a happy ending, well done to all the rescuers,” commented one person.
