Horse Lays Head On Coffin And Gives Touching Farewell To Human Best Friend Before He’s Laid To Rest
34-year-old Wagner Figueiredo de Lima and his horse, Sereno, were the best of friends. Wherever you found one, the other wasn’t too far behind; they were inseparable.
But sadly Lima passed away earlier this week from injuries he suffered in a traffic accident near his home in Paraiba, Brazil. Although Sereno may not understand the situation to the full extent, he did realize that his best friend was no longer around, and he was devastated.
On Tuesday, family and friends gathered around for Lima’s funeral before he was laid to rest. Lima’s brother Wando thought that Sereno should be in attendance for the funeral as well since he meant so much to Lima and vice versa.
When the truck with Lima’s coffin arrived, Sereno seemed to know that his best friend was inside.
“He began to walk around the coffin, smelling the coffin. Then he neighed,” attendee Kyioshi Abreu told The Dodo. “It was a very strong emotion. Everyone who was there was moved. I cried myself when I saw that scene.”
After smelling the coffin, Sereno lowered his head and rested it against the coffin. It was as if Sereno understood what was happening and wanted to say his final farewell to his beloved best friend.
They then brought the coffin to the cemetery, and Sereno whimpered and beat his hooves on the ground the entire way there.
Lima’s brother took in Sereno to join his own family, so Sereno will receive that same love for many years to come.
