Matted Dog Who Was Dumped At A Shelter Makes An Incredible Transformation, Both Inside And Out
On September 27, this dog named Holland was surrendered at an open access shelter in Chicago in horrible condition.
The shelter knew she needed help right away, so they immediately contacted Trio Animal Foundation. They agreed to take her in and got started right away on making her deplorable condition better.
The poor pup had such bad matted fur that probably caused a lot of pain. The fur that was matted on her legs was more than 2-3 inches thick. She had so much matts on her back that it looked like an exoskeleton from behind.
She also had matted ears that dragged to the ground and were six inches long as opposed to the two inches that they should’ve been. She smelled horribly and she would constantly rub her face because her irritated skin was extremely itchy.
Rescuers spent over two hours trying to cut off some of the matted fur, but scissors would only cut through the thin layers. The only way to get the rest of the knotted fur off was to have her sedated for a surgical groom at the vet.
Aside from the matts and having bruised and cut skin, Holland was thankfully healthy. After they shaved her, she looked like a whole new dog! She had trouble walking since her matts had prevented normal circulation for so long, but they gave her antibiotics to help with the pain.
Now that Holland was healthy on the outside, it was time to heal her on the inside. Holland had gone so long without human contact or affection, that she was shy and not at all socialized. TAF used their therapy dog, Miller, to help break Holland out of her shell. Luckily, it worked!
Holland is such a friendly and sweet dog, and it didn’t take long for her to find a forever home! She made a strong connection with her new mom and dad right away and they fell in love with her at first sight.
Holland has definitely gone from rags to riches! The smile she now wears on her face says it all! Her transformation, both physically and emotionally, is absolutely incredible and inspirational!
