Abandoned Hairless Hamster Is Now Warm And Cozy Thanks To Her Custom Tiny Sweater

All animals deserve kindness and respect no matter how large or small they are. So, when hairless Silky the hamster was brought into the Oregon Humane Society all cold and shivering, animal technician, Selene Mejia knew there was only one thing to do. This kind soul set out to crotchet a miniature sweater for Silky.

Due to a genetic mutation, Silky would forever be hairless since she couldn’t grow any fur. However, Selene’s lovely little hand-knit creation was the perfect thing to keep her nice and warm during the winter months.

Even though the sweater was adorable, Silky wouldn’t wear it all the time. According to the Oregon Humane Society, this little hamster would spend most of her time in the buff, only wearing her sweater for special occasions.

Even though she didn’t have hair, the OHS stated that Silky was just like every other hamster.

OHS staff member, Diana Gabaldon, said, “While she isn’t fluffy like a normal hamster, she is just as cuddly and playful as any other hamster. She does need to be kept in a heated environment, especially during the winter, and have a higher protein diet to keep her warm.”

After she Silky recovered from an eye infection, the OHS set out to find this sweet little girl the forever home she deserved.
