The Internet Has Fallen In Love With A Hairless Cat That Lost Its Eyes
You never quite know what the Internet is going to fall in love with, and recently, it is a hairless cat that has no eyeballs. After making the rounds on social media, this feline has gone viral in amazing ways.
The cat, Jasper, is owned by Kelli and was adopted when he was 2 years old. It seemed as if he was healthy, but within a couple of years, he was diagnosed with feline herpesvirus (FHV). It wasn’t long before a corneal ulcer was developed in his right eye and eventually, he had to have the eye removed.
His Facebook page has over 11,000 likes and it said that he was still happy, but now he only had one eye.
The other eye developed a corneal ulcer in September 2018 and Jasper had to have the eye removed. It left him completely blind.
In April 2019, Jasper had a mild stroke, although he did adapt “super well.” His owner said on social media that it was a terrifying experience for Jasper, and he would wake her spinning in circles, wondering what was going on.
Jasper has made almost a 100% recovery since that time. He walks about cautiously and there are times when he isn’t sure where he is. They still consider him to be extremely healthy, despite the obvious problems.
Now that Jasper is 12 years old, the veterinarian is saying that he should go on to live another 10 years. It’s a good thing, because Jasper has built up a following on Instagram of 78,000 people and another 50,000 on TikTok.
Kelli told BuzzFeed: “I get art of him all the time, and at least five people have gotten him tattooed on them, and that’s not including me!
“It’s wild, but so, so appreciated!” she continued.
She hopes that others will continue to adopt pets that have disabilities, as they are often left behind.
“A blind cat can still live a very fulfilling, happy life,” Kelli said. “If you’re thinking of adopting a pet, maybe take a look at the less loved: the elderly, the disabled. They may just be the best companion you’ll ever have.”
