German Shorthaired PointerFamilyPet
Agile, athletic and highly intelligent, the German Shorthaired Pointer is a natural gun dog and hunter. Possessing a keen sense of smell, this dog can track anything from birds and squirrels to possum and deer.
The GSP has an even temperament, and is extremely active and energetic. They are very high performance dogs. He doesn’t mind work or play; he just needs a great deal of mental and physical exercise. A standard GSP is muscled and lean, deep chested with short hair and a docked tail, he has a lot of enthusiasm and endurance for the task at hand.
Medium in size, the German Shorthair can be solid liver or liver and white with kind, brown eyes. He requires little grooming aside from a nail trim and a weekly brushing and they do shed a lot! The GSP is a great fit for the family that loves outdoor activities.
These are regal, beautiful dogs originally bred in Germany in the late 1800s. A mixture of bird dog, Spanish Pointer, English Foxhounds and English Pointers, the GSP encompasses the best hunting traits from each of these breeds.
The German Shorthaired Pointer is comical to watch but can be poetry in motion when he is in full chase mode or pointing at his chosen target.
Weights for males should hover between 55 to 70 pounds; female weights should span 45 to 60 pounds.
