These Sisters Have Spent The Past 15 Years Fostering More Than 1500 Dogs And Cats

Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) in Greece devotes their time to helping animals in need and to give them exactly what their name says, a second chance. Two of their oldest and most experienced volunteers are sisters Katie and Marianna.

Katie and Marianna have been with SCARS for the past 15 years, and in that time have fostered more than 1000 dogs and 500 cats, and don’t plan on stopping any time soon!

Katie, the oldest sister, lives on the ground floor, while Marianna lives in the apartment on the top. Their houses share a common garden, and both of them share a common passion: animals. They have always fostered dogs – mainly puppies – but started fostering cats in 2009. Now they are experts in treating, socializing, and preparing their feral cats for their forever homes.

There are eight rooms in total where rescue cats stay until they are adopted. They even have a separate part where the sick or injured kittens stay to recover.

In a country where people are not all too familiar with animal welfare, these two sisters are doing their best to help out as much as they can. Today, they have two foster dogs and 26 foster cats. Helping animals is their passion and purpose in life, and they will continue to do so for as long as they live!

Growing up, Ashley always had a passion for writing. After receiving her Bachelor's in Journalism from Stony Brook University, she now uses that passion to write about the thing she loves most in this world: animals! When she isn't writing, you can find her curled up on the couch with a kindle in her hands and her Guinea Pigs on her lap.
