The Arnavon Islands are one of the Coral Triangle’s biggest hawksbill turtle nesting sites, but their population has been rapidly declining. Thanks to conservation efforts of local communities and The Nature Conservancy, the Arnavons have witnessed a 400 percent increase in Hawsbill sea turtles.
To help the nesting process, monitors protect the turtles’ nests from predation. When they’re ready to hatch, these monitors help the newborn turtles in their long journey to the water.
