At Last: Dow Ends Cruel Testing On 36 Beagles In Michigan Lab

Less than a week ago, an undercover investigation by The Humane Society Of The United States (HSUS) discovered 36 beagles being force-fed pesticides in cruel testing.

The story went viral and people from across the country spoke up to help rescue the innocent dogs. Over 300,000 people signed a petition and demanded the dogs be released. Many also contacted the company directly to voice their concerns. Well, all of it paid off!

Dow AgroSciences (Corteva AgriScience) announced yesterday that it has ended a one-year pesticide test on the dogs at Charles River Laboratories in Michigan.

“We have immediately ended the study that was the subject of attention last week and will make every effort to rehome the animals that were part of the study,” said the company in a statement posted on Facebook.

Kitty Block, CEO of HSUS praised the company for ending the study and said, “This is a significant step that is critical to the welfare of the dogs. We now urge Corteva to work with us to get the dogs out of the laboratory and to our shelter and rescue partners so that they can be adopted into loving homes.”

While the public is relieved that the current beagles will not have to be force-fed any more pesticides, many are still upset with the company for testing on animals. One said, “Too bad you already killed a bunch of dogs. I’m glad it ended it but it should have never started. And I have a hard time believing it would have ended if it wasn’t for the humane society going to the media. I don’t know how those employees that orchestrated and carried out these acts can live with themselves.”

Many want proof of the dogs being released and for the company to pay for all future vet bills for the dogs. Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. While this is a great victory, thousands of dogs and other animals are suffering in labs across the country.

Animal testing needs to be banned! Be a voice for the voiceless.
