This Military Pup Retires And Finds A Forever Home With Her Marine!
Donna, a yellow lab, was a military pooch with a very important job! Her job was to detect explosives. She and her human counterpart, Cpl. Joaquin Aranda, trained together on a marine base in North Carolina before they were deployed to Afghanistan for seven months.
During those seven months, the duo became inseparable. Donna, despite being on four legs and covered in fur, was just as valuable to Aranda’s unit as any other member. Her job was to scout out an area for explosives and sniff out their exact locations so that her soldiers could avoid risking their legs. When she was off the clock, Donna spent her time right by Aranda’s side. At night, she even slept on the ground next to Aranda’s bed. And on cold nights, she would cuddle up in Aranda’s bed with her favorite human.
After her and Aranda’s seven-month stint in Afghanistan, Donna retired from her career as an expert explosive detector and was put up for adoption. Not wanting to lose out on his furry friend, Aranda decided to adopt Donna and give her a forever home. Their reunion at Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas is absolutely heartwarming! Aranda was so nervous that he was pacing in the airport’s baggage claim area. And it wasn’t just him waiting in anticipation for Donna to arrive. In a show of support, Aranda’s entire family went to the airport to welcome Donna to her new home.
This touching story is all thanks to the efforts of the American Humane Society and Mission K9 Rescue! It was because of these two associations that Aranda was able to happily reunite with Donna and provide her with a loving retirement home!
