Animal Shelters Are Hosting Virtual Adoptions On Zoom

Animal shelters are still hard at work trying to find loving homes for all the homeless pets, but the global pandemic has forced them to change their adoption process. Potential adopters are told to stay at home to reduce the spread of the virus, so animal shelters are bringing the dogs to them through virtual adoptions.

Pedigree is teaming up with animal shelters across the country to help homeless dogs find forever homes through Zoom meetings. Zoom, a web-based video conferencing service, has been a life-saving tool during the global pandemic. Companies and families are able to stay in touch and now people can connect with homeless pets.

“Dogs on Zoom” was created by Pedigree to help shelter dogs find forever homes without people leaving theirs. The concept was simple: meet dogs, ask questions, adopt online. The dog food company went a step further and is covering all the adoption fees of the featured pets.

People are asked to register for a meeting here and then details will be sent to them via email. The featured shelter, dates, and times of the meetings are all listed on the site.

During a meeting, people learn about the shelter’s available pets and can ask the shelter staff questions. The dogs are live streaming from their kennels, so it is an hour full of adorable furry faces. Those interested in adopting are still asked to fill out an application and the normal steps will be taken to make sure it is a perfect fit.

The Nashville Humane Association was one of the first shelters to participate in the program. Becca, Director of Operations and Development for the shelter, was the host and thrilled to be offering virtual adoptions. They even featured some adorable cats and kittens searching for forever homes. The shelter received lots of interest so they posted on Facebook the best way for people to proceed with adopting a pet they fell in love with during the meeting.
