This Dog Spent 10 Years At A Puppy Mill. Now, She Gets To Pick Out Her Own Toys For The First Time
Katarina, a ten-year-old Yorkie, may seem like a happy little pup, but her past has been anything but that. She spent her entire life crammed in a little cage at a puppy mill. Thankfully, she was rescued by the Hub City Humane Society in Mississippi, and then went to live with her new foster mom, Ashleigh Reader.
Despite everything she has been through, she is an extremely sweet and loving dog. When her foster mom picked her up, she was obsessing over every toy she saw, so Reader thought it’d be a good idea to bring her to pick out her own toys. So off to Petsmart they went, and Katarina was overwhelmed with joy when she saw all of the different toy options.
She picked out two different toys that seemed to be her favorite: a squeaky corn dog, which she licked instead of chewed, and a stuffed bunny rabbit. She is an extremely hyper and happy pup, despite her past. She will be made available for adoption in the coming months.

While Katarina is in a loving place now, there are plenty of other dogs who are suffering in the same situation that Katarina was once in. “I really want to bring awareness to puppy mills and get people to double check where those cute puppies at the pet stores or Craigslist ads are coming from. And to ultimately adopt before they shop,” Reader told The Dodo. “We also have a few other dogs from the same puppy mill that are for adoption and we’ll be continuously getting more dogs from the same mill for a few more weeks until they’re all out of there.”
