What To Look Out For When Taking Your Dog To The Beach…
I don’t know about you, but this summer has been “ruff.” It’s been especially tough for my dog. When you live so close to the beach and your dog gives you “that look” every time you leave… you know the look I’m talking about; it almost makes you not to want to go! So, I did some research and found out that just one town over there is an off-leash dog beach! SUMMER MADE.
Beach days can be a blast, but it’s also important to know what to look out for when you and your furry friend are at the beach. Whether you two are lounging around in the summer shade or jumping through the ocean waves; we have a few things we’d like for you to know before you head out:
•Pay attention to what your beach allows in terms of toys. Some beaches, mine for example, do not allow Frisbees, but balls, sticks, and other toys are allowed.
•Refrain from taking your dog (unless it is a service animal) into buildings or trails, unless otherwise designated. You may love dogs, but the people inside the building may not.
•If you plan on staying at the beach till dusk, keep a watchful eye on your dog. If your dog is not on a leash and is a scavenger, try putting a florescent collar on them. It’ll make it easier for you to see them while watching the sunset.
•Make sure your dog can swim! This may sound silly, but some dogs actually can’t do the doggie paddle. If you’re unsure whether or not your dog can swim, invest in a doggie lifejackets.
•When you make it to the beach, try to find a spot with some shade. The water may be cool, but the shade will keep your pup even cooler.
•Be mindful of your pet and the sun. The lighter the coat, the more likely they are to burn. Invest in some doggie sunscreen if you’re concerned.
Before you head to the beach, be sure to see what rules and regulations pertain to that beach. Now grab your dog and go for a dip!
