Depressed Rescue Dog Becomes Best Friends With A Rat
Osiris and Riff Rat have defied logic with their friendship. But despite their glaring size differences, the 3-year-old Dutch Shepherd and 3-month-old rat are the best of friends – even going as far as establishing a huge level of trust amongst each other when Osiris lets Riff Rat climb inside his mouth and clean his teeth!
This adorable friendship began after Osiris’s owners adopted Riff Rat when he was only 4-weeks-old. He was a rescue who hadn’t even opened his eyes yet, so the family lovingly nursed him back to health with the help of a syringe.
Osiris himself was a rescue as well, having been saved from a parking lot when he was only a puppy. His owners took him in as a foster, but he ended up staying forever, thus being their foster fail. The gentle pooch was trained as a therapy dog, and he’s assisted his owners with raising and looking after many different animals. But none of them have been as close a friend to him as Riff Rat.
At first, their owners were hesitant to bring the two together – for obvious reasons. However, they later found out they had nothing to worry about. Both Osiris and Riff Rat got on so well, it was like they’d been best friends forever.
As the owners explained, “Riff Ratt really likes licking the inside of Osiris’ mouth. I’m sure you all are wondering if we’re afraid Osiris will eat Riff – NOPE! Osiris has helped foster and care for dozens of animals and he is the gentlest dog I’ve ever met.”
The two are frequently being featured together on Instagram, so check out some of our favorite pictures below:
