Cat Gets Voter Registration Application In The Mail 12 Years After He Died
We sometimes wonder what will come in the mail and we may even look forward to heading out to the mailbox. With the 2020 presidential election getting into full swing, a family in Atlanta, Georgia received something in the mail that took them by surprise.
What they received was a voter registration application. In itself, that wouldn’t have been very strange but the recipient of the application is what put up a red flag.
According to WAGA-TV, Ron Tims went out to check the mail and found a voter registration application to his family’s pet cat, Cody. If that wasn’t strange enough, the cat has been dead for 12 years.
“A great cat, indoor and outdoor, loved his family, loved his neighborhood. He was 18 and a half when he passed away,” Carol Tims said.
Cody’s ashes are kept in a green container by the family. They were a little amused at the mishap but they were also quite surprised. They admitted that there is a push to get out these registrations but they aren’t sure why they are trying to register a cat. “I’m not sure if they’re trying to register dogs, mice, snakes,” Carol joked.
According to WAGA-TV, a statement from the Secretary Of State’s Office said the application didn’t come from their office but it came from a third-party group that they used to get names and addresses for mailing lists.
“Third-party groups all over the country are targeting Georgia to help register qualified individuals,” the statement said. They also questioned what the out of town activists are up to. If fraud is involved, the Secretary Of State’s Office is dedicated to finding out what is happening.
They did confirm that cats cannot register to vote, even if they are alive and receive an application in the mail. In order to be legitimate, you have to have a state ID, such as a driver’s license.
