Abandoned In A Box, He Was Overlooked At A Shelter For Weeks. Then Fate Brought Him A Second Chance
They weren’t looking for a specific breed or sex, as long as it was a smaller dog and had a good connection with them. That’s when they began looking on Petfinder for their perfect match. They came across an overwhelming majority of Chihuahuas, which helped make up their minds that this would be the breed they wanted to help.
“We looked for a few months. I sent in application after application to countless rescue groups, but it wasn’t as easy to adopt a dog as I had originally thought,” Raquel explained. “Many groups did not return emails or calls, and we began to feel a little disappointed with the entire process.”

They were about to give up when they decided to check Petfinder one last time. That’s when they saw little Mouse. After reading his description, Raquel’s heart began beating very fast. “I thought to myself, ‘I think we found him.’”
So, Raquel and her husband drove up to Westchester, NY, to meet Mouse and get to know him. They wanted to see if they had a connection with him and if he’d be a good fit for their family and vice versa.

“When we first saw him, I remember feeling happy, excited, hopeful, and sad all at once,” Raquel recalled. “Here was this tiny, wobbly, shaky little dog that someone decided to abandon. My heart broke for him, and I knew that if he would have us, we’d love him every day for the rest of his life.”
The shelter staff absolutely loved Mouse, and it didn’t take long for Raquel to learn why. He had a great personality and was extremely friendly with adults, kids and even other dogs. They took turns holding him and fell more and more in love with him. They knew he was their perfect match and the dog they had been looking for all along.

“The moment we signed the adoption papers, I felt joy, excitement, and peace,” Raquel said. “Anyone who has adopted a dog can tell you, that moment is magic! It was one of the happiest days of our lives.”
Although his name at the shelter was Mouse, they decided to change it to Mr. Crowley. And with his new name came a new life of adoration and affection. Despite his rough past, he is completely trusting of humans and still has so much love to give.
