She Held Up Her Violin. When The Music Starts, Watch The Cows!

Musicians Amy Lee, Frank Rosenwein, and Joanna and Mike Zakany from the Cleveland Orchestra, decided to serenade some cows, named Maybelle, Mike and Maribeth, with their instruments at the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary and see how they liked it. Not only did they like it, they LOVED it! As soon as the violin began making sounds, Maybelle, the shy cow of the bunch, started walking right over! She curiously stood there listening to the music, and then the other two cows came over to join her. They seemed to actually appreciate the music that was being played for them.

In 2001, a study from the U.K.’s University Of Leicester found that cows love slow jams. The study was to see if relaxing music helped dairy cows produce more milk. While the slow music had the effect of alleviating stress and relaxing the animal, the results were inconclusive. But at least we know they like music. Who doesn’t?!
