The aloof yet beautiful Chinese Shar-Pei is a breed with distinct features and regal attributes. With a head similar to that of a hippopotamus shape and adorable wrinkles, this breed is certainly a popular one.
The Chinese Shar-Pei is a hunting and guarding dog but also a family companion. Even though it may not be as friendly with strangers, it is lovable with its own family members. The coat of the Chinese Shar-Pei comes in various colors and these dogs can be seen with almost any type of solid color coat. When seen in the dog show arena, these dogs often excel in areas such as agility, obedience, conformation and tracking. The Chinese Shar-Pei stands approximately 18 to 20 inches in height at the shoulder and weighs around 45 to 60 pounds.
The Chinese Shar-Pei is a unique family dog, but can be stubborn. Therefore, obedience training is advisable as is the patience of the pet owner. With that said, they are loyal dogs which enjoy being with their owners. The Chinese Shar-Pei needs a good deal of daily exercise and being a larger dog breed it is a good idea to have a single family home for the Shar-Pei as opposed to a small apartment. This dog breed is intelligent and will learn quickly but may still stick with its own mind at times. However, training will come in handy with the Chinese Shar-Pei.
Grooming the Chinese Shar-Pei is not too arduous a task. The Chinese Shar-Pei is a clean dog which likes to be well groomed. Weekly brushing and the occasional trip to the groomer will keep your Chinese Shar-Pei looking its best.
If you want a unique type of dog breed which is intelligent, loyal and has a mind of its own, the Chinese Shar-Pei is a good choice.
