500 Homeless Cats Are Rescued Off The Streets. Where They End Up Looks Like Paradise!
Lanai Cat Sanctuary is home to more than 500 rescue cats. The nonprofit’s mission is to end the suffering of cats struggling to survive on the streets and in the wild. Their rescue and welfare work saves cats, reduces cat overpopulation, and even protects endangered birds.
The sanctuary is a three-acre “lush oasis” in Lanai City, Hawaii, with a high-tech mobile medical center. The cats were all rescued from being homeless and now they live an amazing life with hundreds of kitty friends.
This all started in 2004 when a group of people were sterilizing Lanai’s street cats and then sheltering them in a horse stable in the mountain community of Koele. This was led by the sanctuary’s founder Kathy Carroll. By 2009, the Lanai Cat Sanctuary was established as a nonprofit and relocated to the paradise it exists at now.
