This Rescued Bulldog May Look Tough, But He’s Really A Sweetheart Who Loves To Cuddle With Kittens

This bull-dog mix may look really tough, but this five-year-old rescue couldn’t be more of a snuggler. And though he’s friendly with everyone, Pickles has a special affinity for cuddling with kittens, which is especially handy because Pickles and his pet mom are feline foster parents.

The former shelter dog recently bonded with kitten brothers James and Jacobi, an orphaned pair who found themselves at Alley Cat Rescue, which traps, spay/neuters, rehabilitates, and re-homes stray cats around California. “They were quite sick but the sweetest little guys,” rescuers told Love Meow.

The tiny brothers were also tightly bonded, which made sense considering everything they’d been through. They had cuddled and comforted each other during their early days on the streets, throughout their recovery, and during their time at the rescue. “They are always cuddling,” rescuers said. “They love people, dogs and each other.”

But the kittens had never met a dog like Pickles, who looked big and scary but loved to cuddle with kittens exactly like them. Moreover, Pickles was kind, gentle, and endlessly patient. The dog didn’t mind if they crawled all over him, or roughhoused nearby, and he was always ready to snuggle and share his body warmth.

The kittens, of course, were more than happy to oblige. “James and Jacobi are best friends who want to spend every moment together and don’t mind when the other lays on their head. Cuddle piles are their specialty and they will gladly show you the way,” rescuers said. Pickles was quickly incorporated in the kittens’ napping routine.

Moreover, the bulldog’s steadying presence and love helped the kittens blossom in foster care. Two weeks later, the kittens had been adopted into a forever family together. “We are so happy these two sweet cuddly boys get to spend the rest of their lives together in a wonderful home,” Alley Cat Rescue said.

Of course, this heartwarming story means that you also can’t judge a book by its cover! Pickles — like all so-called “bully breeds” — may look mean and tough, but he’s really the perfect the foster dog parent! Just look how his nurturing approach and unconditional loved helped James and Jacobi grow into such confident and well-adjusted young cats! Keep up the good work, Pickles!
