Raw Pet Food Brand Issues Recall Due To Possible Salmonella & Listeria Contamination

On March 3, 2021, Bravo Packing, Inc. of Carneys Point, NJ issued a voluntary recall on all Ground Beef and Performance Dog, a frozen raw pet food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

No confirmed illness have been reported at this time. The recall is a result of routine sampling that was performed by the FDA. Samples of Performance Dog and a sample of Ground Beef collected during the inspection tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

Salmonella is harmful to the animals eating the contaminated food and to humans who handle it. People who do not thoroughly wash their hands or surfaces exposed to the products are at a higher risk.

The FDA warns, “Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, server headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

Salmonella was the cause of multiple recalls last year.
