She Was Obese, Blind and Heartbroken. Where She Ended Up? Piggy Paradise!Ashley Maisano
When Molly, the four-year-old potbellied pig, arrived at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, her heart was completely broken. She was forced to leave her caregivers when they could no longer care for her. She was extremely overweight, so bad to the point where she couldn’t even open her eyes. She was in need of a good diet and lots of exercise. Her new caretakers knew it would take a lot of work to get Molly to where she should be, but they never gave up.
Since Molly had never been socialized, she was very anxious around people and other pigs. Caregivers tried to lure Molly out of her little house little by little with some food. They also introduced her to some senior pigs who were very calm and wouldn’t stress Molly out. She is now becoming more and more comfortable with other pigs. Once Molly felt more comfortable, she began to follow caretakers. This was a great first step for exercise. Eventually, the fat around Molly’s eyes disappeared and she gained her sight back!
Molly is becoming more and more social each day and is seemingly much happier! She enjoys playing in the water and getting belly rubs. While she’s enjoying her time at Best Friends Sanctuary, she is patiently awaiting a forever home. In the meantime, she will continue to play with the other pigs, get a lot of exercise, and remain on a good diet!
