He Spotted THIS Lying In The Middle Of A Busy Road, So He Did What He Had To Do To Save HimAshley Maisano
A baby field mouse was lying in the middle of a busy bicycle path in Burlington, Vermont. A storm was coming, and bikers rushed to get home, barely avoiding the tiny, helpless animal. A man named Abraham Rash noticed the baby mouse and made the quick decision to save him.
“Normally, I would leave a baby for its momma to find, but he was in a very exposed spot on the path…the rain was going to chill him badly,” Rash told The Dodo. It was also very likely that the mouse would have eventually gotten run over by one of the bikers.
Rash picked up the 12-day-old mouse, made a small nest out of Kleenex, and put him safely in a bag. He immediately called the SPCA, but they wouldn’t take him. Refusing to give up on him, he brought the mouse home, unsure if he’d survive the rest of the day. But he did!
Rash got a small syringe to feed the little guy, who he named Martin, and made him a bed by filling a rodent carrier with torn tissues. He feeds Martin every two hours and keeps him as warm as possible.
He introduced Martin to his dog and will continue to care for him until he is older. Rash is unsure of Martin’s future, but where he ends up will depend on how he acts as he grows.
“If he’s clearly more wild in temperament, back to the wild he goes,” Rash told The Dodo. “I’ll take care to put him someplace far from any homes or barns, but I have no problems releasing him. But if he’s snuggling and close, it’s cruel to turn him loose at that point. I adjusted him to people, so it will be my responsibility to find people for him to stay adjusted with.”
