A newborn gorilla was born at Bristol Zoo in England after the mama gorilla, Kera, had to have a rare emergency cesarean section. Kera showed symptoms of potentially life-threatening preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system, but she is now recovering and under close observation.

The baby Western lowland gorilla was born on February 12, weighing approximately two pounds and ten ounces. This procedure has been carried out on gorillas only a handful of times worldwide and is the first for this zoo and gynecologist. Watch how adorable this baby gorilla is in the video below. She is so sweet! It’s incredible how similiar gorillas are to humans!
