BREAKING NEWS: Two More Major Pet Food Brands Have Recalled Dog Food Due To Excessive Levels Of Vitamin D
Andrea PowellANF, Inc. and ELM Pet Foods, Inc. are voluntarily recalling certain dog foods due to elevated levels of vitamin D.
These recalls joins a growing number of others for the year of 2018.
These voluntary recalls are being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
What Is Recalled?
According to Dog Food Advisor, Elm dog food recall includes products manufactured between February 25, 2018 and October 31, 2018 with the following “Best By” dates:

According to Dog Food Advisor, ANF dog food recall includes products listed below that were distributed in retail stores in Puerto Rico.

Symptoms of Vitamin D toxicity
Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as:
- vomiting
- loss of appetite
- increased thirst
- increased urination
- excessive drooling
- weight loss
Vitamin D when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal failure.
What should you do?
According to the FDA, pet owners and those caring for pets should stop feeding the products listed above immediately. Consumers with dogs who have consumed any of the products listed above and are exhibiting these symptoms, should contact their veterinarian.
Anyone in possession of products affected by this recall should dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
