Despite Losing Two Legs In An Accident, Rescued Kitten Is Grateful For Second Chance At Life
When veterinarians first met Duck, a tabby kitten whose critical injuries required urgent care at a Florida animal clinic, the little girl’s front legs were so badly mangled they required amputation.
“She was brought into my sister’s clinic… thankfully, they have an amazing surgeon that wanted to save her and performed a double amputation,” the kitten’s foster mom wrote on Instagram. “We think maybe (she was) trying to stay warm in the engine bay of a car.”

Fortunately, the little kitten’s surgery went well, and it wasn’t long before she was recovering in foster care. “I took her in (as a foster) and she acclimated to her new life quickly,” the kitten’s foster parent wrote. “It didn’t take her long at all to adapt and start walking all around the house on her own.”
But Duck wasn’t just surviving — she was thriving. Not only does the growing kitten use her hind legs to hop around, she moves around with such speed that leave her feathered and fur siblings – including three dogs, another cat, and 6 ducks – struggling to keep up.

“(She is) the happiest little kitten alive,” Duck’s human wrote on Instagram. “I got her some wheels and a custom fit harness but she was not a fan. She loves running around free.” The growing kitten also loves sunbathing, learning new tricks, and spending time with her big dog brothers.

Duck’s story inspires just about everyone she meets – and for good reason! We think it’s also a pretty powerful testament to animal rescue. A traditional shelter may have assumed this critically-injured kitten wasn’t worth the cost of rehabilitation, but foster care helped nurture this injured stray blossom into a sweet, loving, and energetic young cat. Duck’s story is a great tribute to the power of animal rescue, and how foster care/adoption can help save an animal’s life.
