American English Coonhound
Originating in the United States, the American English Coonhound is a hunting dog by nature, but a perfect family dog as well. When on the hunt, the American English Coonhound shows speed, stamina and endurance; however, when at home with his family, he is a loyal and calm canine.
With a muscular build and regal air, the American English Coonhound is a beauty to behold. This breed has a short coat usually comprised of colors such as red, blue, white, black or varying combinations of the four. The American English Coonhound stands around 23 to 26 inches in height and weighs approximately 40 to 65 pounds.
These dogs are not high maintenance, but will require a good deal of exercise, due to their need to run and be outdoors. As a medium-sized dog, this canine needs to romp whenever possible. A fenced-in yard is ideal, as this breed loves to run around, and has a lot of energy to expend.
Though this breed has primarily been used for hunting, more recently, families are taking this lovable dog into their homes. The American English Coonhound generally gets along with other dogs, as well as with all members of the family. This breed has a pleasant demeanor and loves to play.
Taking care of an American English Coonhound is also not extremely difficult, especially in the grooming area as this type of dog breed has a shorthaired coat. Brushing approximately once a week is enough to keep the American English Coonhound coat looking nice, neat and shiny.
If you are searching for a dog who is a perfect hunting dog as well as a family friend, you will find both in the American English Coonhound breed.
