The largest of all terriers, the Airedale Terrier has a regal look. In addition to being a family pet, the Airedale Terrier has served many roles, starting in his originating country of England. The Airedale Terrier served as a police dog in both England and Germany and was known to be a good hunting dog, also. This breed helped to keep rodents away for their owners as well.

Airedale Terriers often have black-and-tan coats and stand about 23 inches tall at the shoulder. They have a sturdy stance and muscular body tone that gives them a strong appearance.

Airedale Terriers have a good temperament, therebymaking them a fine family dog. However, they may need a little bit more in the way of obedience training than some other breeds due to their tendency to be a bit stubborn at times. With the right type of training, this stubbornness will not be an issue for most owners.

Airedale Terriers have a thick top wiry coat with a softer coat underneath. Their coat should be brushed approximately twice a week in order to keep it clean and manageable. The Airedale Terrier can be groomed at home by his owner or taken to a groomer for a professional trim and brushing on an as-needed basis.

Proper grooming is not the only factor which must be kept in mind with the Airedale Terrier. It is also important that this dog gets a good amount of daily exercise. Doing so will keep them fit and keep their muscle tone in shape. It is also a great way to allow them to get their energy out and keep them entertained.

Since the Airedale Terrier can get into things inside the house when they are bored, allowing them the freedom to have the right amount of exercise and outdoor entertainment will keep them out of trouble.
