Toby, a sweet orange and white cat, only wanted to be with the ones he loved most. However, his family did not feel the same way about him.

A North Carolina family gave Toby away when they no longer wanted him. Toby missed his family dearly. He walked the 12 miles back to his original home, but what he encountered next was heartbreaking.

The unnamed family took Toby to a local shelter and asked to have him euthanized. When the staff asked why, the family said because they no longer wanted him.

The staff at the SPCA of Wake County received a call from the shelter asking if they would take Toby, and help find him a new home. SPCA of Wake County posted, “Of course we said YES!” The sweet and cuddly cat was instantly made famous when his heart-wrenching story was shared.

The shelter posted on Facebook, “Toby is safe here at the SPCA Pet Adoption Center waiting to find his forever home. He would prefer to be the only cat in his home. We hope his story inspired you to take a stand for animals in need.”

Toby was the star for the shelter’s 2018 Dog Walk and Woofstock. They used his story and came up with the line: ‘If he is willing to walk 12 miles to save his life, will you walk ONE to save thousands of animals like Toby?’

It did not take long before the perfect family came to adopt Toby. His new family is showering him with the love he deserves.
