11 Puppies Rescued From Underground Cave That Their Mom Dug To Protect Them From Bad Weather
The Michigan Humane Society received a call from someone who had heard puppies crying nearby.
Rescuers came to check out the area, and that’s when they found puppies who were buried underground. They believe their mother put them there to protect them from the bad weather.
They wanted to catch the mama dog at the same time as the puppies so they could be kept together, but with the bad storm coming, they knew they had to focus on the puppies.
One of the workers reached down in the hole and started pulling the puppies out one-by-one. They put each one in the cage they brought. They pulled out four puppies before they had to dig deeper into the hole to reach the rest. Some got caught in roots, so rescuers had to be gentle when getting them out.
After nearly 30 minutes, they finally pulled out the last puppy. There were 11 puppies in total! Thankfully, they were all okay. Once all the pups were safe, they knew they had to catch the mom.
While they got to work trying to come up with a plan to get the mom, another rescuer brought the puppies back to the shelter so they could be bathed and examined.
They put out a trap with food in it, in hopes of catching the mom. Luckily, they were finally able to get ahold of her! They brought her back to their shelter to get cleaned up, evaluated, and finally reunite with her puppies!
Once the pups are old enough, they will all be available for adoption. Follow the Michigan Humane Society for updates.
