10 Reasons Why Your Dog Is The Best Friend You’ll Ever Have

1. They live for YOU, not themselves

They always say a dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. And I believe it to be true! Their days start and end with us. Heck, their whole lives start and end with us! They are the most genuine creatures on the planet and all they care about is us. Think about it. We, as humans, are so caught up with the daily chaos of what we call life – working, going to school, worrying about money and materialistic things, and the list goes on and on. Yet, for our dogs, their entire world revolves around US. We are all they know!

2. They greet you at the door after a long day

Isn’t it so wonderful to come home after a hard day’s work to an innocent little cutie, wagging their tail, SO happy to see us? It’s the most special feeling! I don’t think anyone else has ever been so happy to see me. Our dogs make us feel loved and wanted, and it’s the best!

3. They’re there to listen to everything you have to say

They might not say much, but they’re great listeners! Sometimes I find myself having a full-fledged conversation with my dog, pouring my heart out to him, before I realize that I am talking to an animal…who has no idea what I am saying. Yet, the way they look at you, tilting their head and absorbing all of your words, is such a comforting feeling. At least you don’t have to worry about them running off telling your secrets!

4. They’ll never hurt your feelings

They don’t care if your new jeans make your butt look too big, or if you’re having a bad hair day. They won’t think it, and they sure as heck won’t say it. They’re not here to steal your boyfriend, or to make fun of the way we talk, dress, or eat, and they certainly won’t talk behind our backs. They’re here for one reason and that’s to love us with all their heart.

5. They’re a warm, fluffy shoulder to cry on

When I was a little girl, I would always cry into my teddy bear. As I’ve gotten older, I learned that crying into my dog is just as satisfying, if not better! They might look at you funny and wonder what the heck you’re doing (and so might other people), but they will let you get all of your tears out before they get up. They may even lick them away for you! Dogs can definitely sense when something is wrong and tend to comfort you when they know you are feeling down in the dumps. Who needs a man to make you feel better when you have a dog?!

6. They make the best cuddle buddies

Heck. Yes. Usually I wind up being the big spoon despite my 85-lb Labradoodle taking up most of the bed, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We complain about our pups being all over our beds, yet never seem to kick them off. Suddenly, it’s so much easier to fall asleep when they’re by our side!

7. They protect you

They serve as your own personal alarm system, barking to wake you up in the middle of the night if they hear strange sounds. Or growling if they feel as if you two are in an uncomfortable or dangerous situation. Our dogs always have our backs!

8. They’re just so darn cute

Ok…maybe it sounds superficial, but having your best friend be so stinkin’ cute just makes it that much better. And they are an adorable photography subject; come on, I know I’m not the only one whose dog is 90% of their camera roll!

9. They can always put a smile on your face

Our dogs are always doing silly and crazy things that give us smiles from ear to ear. Whether it’s the infamous head-tilt, the way they play with a toy, watching them interact with other animals, or just sleeping on the couch in the cutest way, they never ever fail to paint our faces with a giant smile.

 10. They love you no matter what

It doesn’t matter if you failed your test at school, if you got fired from your job, or if you’re having the worst day of your life, your furry little companion will love you just the same! Their love is unconditional and that’s the best part. All they ask of you is to feed them and play with them.

Don’t ever take your dogs for granted. They love us unconditionally and deserve to be loved back just as much. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I like dogs better than I like most people!
