The World’s Oldest Known Wild Bird Just Hatched Her Newest Chick! I Can’t Believe How Old She Is!

Meet Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, a Laysan albatross. She is 65 years old and has just hatched her newest chick, Kukini, earlier this month! Over the past six decades, she is thought to have had 40 chicks and traveled three million miles! She has survived several mates and has been with her current one, Goo, for a few years now. She nests annually at the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge in the Pacific Ocean.

Scientist Chandler Robbins first banded Wisdom back in 1956 as part of a project with the U.S. Geological Survey. Several of her bands have rusted and been replaced throughout the years, but Wisdom herself remains young and active in appearance and behavior. Watch her in the video below. It’s absolutely incredible!
